Discover the Stories Behind Our Beer: Part 1 - Inspired by the Islands

At Lord Chambray, our beers don’t just taste like the Maltese Islands, they look like them too. Our core range of year-round beers isn’t just brewed with craft, care, and creativity; each one is also wrapped in a label design that reflects the unique spirit of a place on Malta, Gozo, or Comino, aka our brewery home!

We’ve always believed beer should tell a story. And when you pick up one of our bottles or cans, you shouldn’t be just sipping great craft beer. We try to send you on a visual journey through some of the most iconic and beautiful spots in the Maltese archipelago.

Let’s crack open the design behind each of our year-round brews, and show you how we bring the island vibes straight to your glass.

San Blas English IPA from Lord Chambray

San Blas

Inspired by: San Blas Bay, Gozo

San Blas Bay is one of Gozo’s hidden gems. It’s a small, peaceful cove with reddish-golden sand and clear blue waters. The walk down to the beach is steep, but totally worth it. And we wanted to reflect that journey in the beer’s design.

The label for our English IPA features warm, sun-kissed tones that are reminiscent of the bay’s signature golden sand, and the soft blue line represents the winding path that leads you there. We also aim to give that glimmering effect on the label, which reminds us of the sun dancing on the sand, like what we see on a perfect Gozo afternoon.

And yes, the colour of the beer itself (that rich amber) matches the label almost perfectly. It’s a little nod to nature’s palette (and a very photogenic pint, if we do say so ourselves).

Golden Bay Golden Ale from Lord Chambray

Golden Bay

Inspired by: Golden Bay, Malta

Soft sand, rolling dunes, and a lush green backdrop. That’s Golden Bay, one of Malta’s most popular (and most photographed) beaches. We wanted to bottle that beachside bliss and pour it into your pint.

The label for our golden ale uses gentle golds and greens to reflect the landscape of the bay, and also the colour of our soft gold beer, like the sand. You’ll spot patterns inspired by the surrounding vegetation and natural textures, giving a relaxed, earthy feel that mirrors the laid-back nature of this crisp and easy-drinking ale.

Blue Lagoon Witbeir from Lord Chambray

Blue Lagoon

Inspired by: Blue Lagoon, Comino

Let’s be honest, if you’ve ever been to Blue Lagoon, you probably tried to capture the water’s colour in a photo, because it’s so unbelievably blue.

Our wheat beer label attempts the impossible: capturing the sparkling, shifting hues of this iconic Comino spot. The hazy blue tones used in the design reflect the sea’s colour on a slightly breezy day, just when the sunlight and waves play together in that magical way.

Bonus: wheat beers are normally naturally hazy too, just like the surface of the sea. Refreshing, cloudy, and cool: just how we like it.

Coral Cave Craft Lager from Lord Chambray

Coral Cave

Inspired by: Coral Lagoon, Mellieħa

Tucked away near Mellieħa lies the stunning Coral Lagoon, which is a hidden gem for snorkellers, divers, and adventurous cliff-jumpers. The underwater world here is alive with colour and movement, and we channelled that vibe into our crisp and bright craft lager.

The label design dives deep, featuring underwater hues, coral textures, and a playful school of fish swimming through the artwork. This one isn’t about matching the beer colour, it’s about celebrating the marine world that inspired it. A refreshing reminder of Malta’s incredible marine diversity.

Grand Harbour

Inspired by: Valletta’s Grand Harbour

There’s no mistaking the grandeur of Malta’s Grand Harbour, which is steeped in history, shaped by cannons, ships, and centuries of trade and battle.

Our session IPA is a toast to tradition, and the label reflects that with strong architectural shapes, historical symbols, and a colour palette that is similar to Valletta’s fortifications and sandstone walls. It’s bold, balanced, and quietly powerful, just like the harbour itself.

Fungus Rock Stout from Lord Chambray

Fungus Rock

Inspired by: Fungus Rock, Dwejra, Gozo

When the sun sets over Fungus Rock, the cliffs light up in brilliant purples, oranges, and dark, rich browns. It’s a sunset that demands a beer, and so we made one.

Our stout features a label that mirrors those moody, dramatic skies, with deep purples and peachy highlights flowing into shadowy browns. The jagged shapes are inspired by the natural rock formations around Dwejra, and the stout inside is just as bold: rich, roasty, and full of character.

A Love Letter to the Maltese Islands

At Lord Chambray, our goal has always been to brew beers that not only taste great, but also tell a story, whether it’s through the ingredients, the process, or the design.

Our core range of year-round beers is inspired by the places we love and the island life we live. So next time you pick up a can of San Blas, Golden Bay, or Blue Lagoon, you’re not just getting a beer, you’re also getting a glimpse into the geography, spirit, and soul of Malta and Gozo.
