Discover the Stories Behind Our Beer: Part 2 - Collabs & Creativity

In Part 1 of this series, we shared how our core range of year-round craft beers is inspired by the landscapes and spirit of the Maltese Islands, our home! From San Blas Bay to Valletta’s Grand Harbour, every label was designed to celebrate a place we love in the place where Lord Chambray originated.

But our creativity doesn’t stop there. At Lord Chambray craft brewery in Gozo, some of our most exciting beers are born from collaborations, seasonal experiments, and one-off ideas that let us have fun with flavour, design, and storytelling. These labels aren’t about bays, beaches, or harbours; they’re about the breweries we work with, unexpected ingredients, and creative journeys that stretch far beyond our island home.

Let’s dive into the cans that show just how playful and imaginative craft beer can be.

Sylvia: Citrus Pale Ale

Sylvia

Sylvia is sunshine in a can. This citrus-forward brew was created with our friends at Magic Rock Brewing in the UK, and bursts with the vibrant flavours of locally grown lemons and oranges, bringing in the local element, and some of the best of Gozo.

On the label, Sylvia appears as a cheerful Paclady, a recognisable symbol which is half lemon, half orange slice, and smiling away like the smile this brew puts on our faces. Bright yellows and juicy orange tones reflect the sunny, zesty soul of this beer, reminding us of peeling fresh fruit on a warm afternoon in Gozo.

Sylvia is proof that when island flavours meet international craft beer creativity, the result is a brew that’s as joyful as its design.

Prickly Pear: Juicy IPA

Prickly Pear

Some flavours are just so Gozo, and when we think Gozo, we think prickly pear. The fruit grows abundantly across the island, on the amazing opuntia cactus. When we brewed this juicy IPA with freshly harvested fruit in August, it quickly became a fan favourite, so much so that we brew it every year now!

The label design is as playful as the beer itself: a surreal bear made of cactus paddles and prickly pear fruit. It’s weird, wonderful, and instantly recognisable. It’s a tribute to the plant that thrives in our landscape.

And the best part? Prickly Pear is making a comeback again this year. Make sure you grab it while it lasts, because this island-inspired IPA won’t stay on the shelves for long.

67 IPA: Double IPA

67 IPA

Some beers are born in the community. 67 IPA was first brewed in collaboration with 67 Kapitali, a craft beer bar in Valletta. What started as a special release for one venue quickly grew into a staple that locals and visitors alike ask for again and again.

The label keeps it simple yet powerful: the bold number “67” takes centre stage, paying homage not only to the bar that inspired it but also to the community spirit that turned this one-off into a modern local classic.

Red Dragon: Sour Ale

Red Dragon

If ever a beer could bite back, it’s Red Dragon. This vibrant sour ale is brewed with strawberries and peaches, giving it a stunning pinkish colour and a tart, juicy punch that refreshes and delights.

The label features the head of a snake with sharp teeth and a twisted, sour expression, as if it’s caught mid-sip of something mouth-puckering. It’s design is fierce, fruity, and refreshing, just like the beer inside.

Marrickville: Pacific Pale Ale

Marrickville

Marrickville is a love letter to Australia. Inspired by a trip to Sydney’s buzzing craft beer scene, this Pacific Pale Ale takes its name from a suburb known for its backyard breweries, friendly vibes, and sunny afternoons.

The label features a basketball hoop, a nod to one of the owner’s favourite memories of locals gathering to shoot hoops and share beers in the suburb. With hops from Australia and New Zealand, Marrickville captures that same easygoing, sun-soaked energy in every sip.

White Waves: White IPA

White Waves

Some beers are brewed to capture a feeling, and White Waves, our Belgian-style wheat beer, was inspired by the freedom and rush of kite surfing on the Mediterranean sea.

The name reflects the natural power of wind and water colliding, which creates foamy white crests on the sea. The label doesn’t show the ocean directly but instead features a kite surf, which represents the energy, movement, and how we can ride the invisible forces that shape our world.

Refreshing, hoppy, and full of life, White Waves is brewed and designed for those who chase adventure.

Beer That Tells a Story

At Lord Chambray, we’ve always believed that craft beer should tell a story, not only through flavour, but also through design, collaboration, and creativity. Whether it’s the bays and harbours of Malta that inspired our core range or the bold characters and collabs featured here, every can is an invitation to taste, see, and feel something special.

So next time you crack open a can of Sylvia, Red Dragon, or 67 IPA, remember, you’re not just drinking beer. You’re experiencing a story, a place, a memory, and a piece of who we are.
