How to taste craft beer, like a pro 🍻

There is a massive difference between drinking a beer, and tasting it. For starters, drinking a beer is what you do at a Maltese summer event, when it's scorching hot. Tasting, however, is a sensory experience. It's about slowing down, unlocking those hidden flavour notes, and understanding exactly what the brewer intended to create.  Tasting Guide to Master the art of Beer Tasting 1. The Setup: Glassware & Temperature Before you even think of opening a beer, you need to set the stage. Two rookie mistakes can ruin a premium craft, and thats drinking straight from the can, and serving it ice-cold.  The Glass: Pouring your beer into a glass releases carbonation and opens up the aromas. Reach for a proper glass and pour your beer allowing the liquid to breath and drive those aromatic notes straight to your nose with every sip. The Temperature: A good beer shouldn't be freezing cold. The extreme cold numbs the tastebuds and masks the flavours. It's recommended that your...

Old vs New: How Time Changes Things at Lord Chambray

There’s something special about looking back. Not in a “things were better back then” way, but in the quiet realisation of how far you’ve come and why change was always part of the plan.

At Lord Chambray, change hasn’t meant losing who we are. It’s meant refining it. Learning. Improving. Brewing better beer, in better ways, for the same people we’ve always brewed for; beer lovers, locals and travellers alike.

Events at Lord Chambray

Where It All Began

Lord Chambray opened its doors in Gozo in 2014, at a time when craft beer in Malta was still finding its feet. Back then, the idea was simple: brew flavour‑driven beer inspired by the island we call home, and share it with a growing community of curious drinkers.

The early days were hands‑on and experimental. Small batches. Big learning curves. Long conversations over pints poured straight from the source. The brewery and taproom quickly became more than a place to drink beer. It became a place to gather.

The Taproom over time

Growth Without Losing the Soul

Over the past decade, a lot has changed. The beers are more refined. The processes are more precise. The designs on our bottles and cans tell clearer stories. In 2023, we reached a milestone we’re especially proud of: becoming Malta’s first craft brewery to can beer. But what hasn’t changed is why we brew.

Every new step, from packaging to process, has been driven by a desire to improve quality while staying rooted in Gozo. Progress, for us, isn’t about doing more for the sake of it. It’s about doing things better.

Brewing With the Future in Mind

Sustainability has become an essential part of how we operate, not a buzzword. At Lord Chambray, we’ve made conscious choices that allow us to reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the character and quality of our beers.

We self‑produce our own nitrogen, an essential element in the brewing process, allowing us to reduce reliance on external production and transportation. Through double fermentation, we not only fine‑tune flavour and balance but also reduce CO₂ emissions, which is a small but meaningful step in a much larger journey.

These decisions are about responsibility. To the island. To the craft. And to the people who drink our beer.

Beer as a Shared Language

Over the years, collaboration has become a natural extension of what we do. Working alongside breweries from across the world has pushed us creatively and technically, allowing us to exchange ideas, techniques, and perspectives. Each collaboration leaves a mark, not just on the beer itself, but on how we approach the next one.

And beyond the brewhouse, community has always been at the heart of Lord Chambray. From taproom events to shared tables and familiar faces, the brewery has grown alongside the people who support it.

Old Photos, New Chapters

Looking at photos from the early days next to where we are now tells a story without words.

The spaces look different. The equipment has evolved. The labels are bolder, cleaner, and more confident. But the essence remains the same: beer brewed in Gozo, inspired by place, and meant to be enjoyed together. Change, after all, is just another form of care.
