Real Beer vs Mass Production - What’s actually inside your glass?

Real Beer vs Mass Production - What’s actually inside your glass? Ever wonder why some beers leave you feeling heavy and bloated, whilst other well crafted beers feel light, crisp and clean?  The secret isn’t just in the recipe, it’s actually the behind the scenes action that goes into making it.  When you crack open a beer, you’re either drinking a product made with patience, passion and raw ingredients, or an industrial beverage engineered for maximum shelf life. Let’s take a step back on the brewing industry and break down what really sets true craft beer apart from mass-produced liquid. The Ingredients: Pure Standards vs. Industrial Fillers Traditionally, beer requires only four fundamental ingredients: water , maltese barley , hops & yeast . In an independent brewery, these four ingredients are treated like gold. The malt provides natural sugars, rich colours and complex flavours, whilst the hops acts as a natural bitterness, creating herbal aromas and juicy citrus n...

Malta’s First Craft Beer in a Can: Why Lord Chambray’s Core Range Is Now In Cans

Craft beer in Malta has evolved over the years. From early experimental batches to a thriving brewery culture, the scene has grown, and so have expectations around quality, freshness, and accessibility.

At Lord Chambray, we’re proud to continue leading that evolution by bringing our core range into cans. This isn’t just a packaging change. It’s a quality upgrade. We strive to make sure our product is the best it can be for our loyal customers here in Malta, so find out why we’re making out latest shift.

Why Cans Make Sense for Craft Beer

For years, some drinkers associated cans with mass-market lagers. But modern craft brewing has changed that perception entirely. Here’s why cans are the smart choice:

1. Protection From Light

Beer is sensitive to UV light. Exposure can cause “skunking,” altering flavour and aroma. Cans block 100% of light, whereas bottles, even brown ones, do not. In sunny Malta, that matters, especially when you’re planning beers at the beach, or over a BBQ.

2. Better Freshness

Cans seal tightly, limit oxygen exposure and preserve hop aromas. For our hop-forward beers like San Blas IPA or Golden Bay, freshness is everything.

3. Perfect for Island Life

Cans are lighter, easier to transport, faster to chill and safer for beaches, boats, and outdoor events. Whether you’re heading to a Gozo cliff sunset, a beach day in Malta or a boat party, cans simply make more sense.

Our Core Range, Now in Cans

Our core beers, brewed in Gozo and enjoyed across Malta, are now available in can format while keeping the same recipes you know and love. You can grab:

  • San Blas IPA, with it’s balanced bitterness with citrus and pine notes.

  • Golden Bay, which is easy-drinking, has a light malt sweetness, and a subtle hop aroma.

  • Blue Lagoon, a crisp and refreshing witbier, perfect for Mediterranean heat.

Same beer. Better protection.

Supporting Craft Beer Growth in Malta

When we first brewed in Gozo, craft beer options in Malta were limited. Today, the community is stronger than ever. Moving our core range into cans helps expand availability at our Local Heroes across Malta and Gozo, improve shelf stability and reach more bars, shops, and restaurants, which means more places for you to enjoy our beers! Really, it’s about accessibility without compromise.
